Symposium "Clinical and Technical Aspects of the Modernization of Regional Radiotherapy Service" took place on July 4 in Rostov-on-Don with the support of Russian manufacturer of medical linacs Fabrika RTT LLC (R-Pharm Group). The event was aimed to increase the professional level of radiation oncologists and medical physicists of the Southern Federal Region, discuss the introduction and use of modern radiotherapy systems in the region.

The symposium took place in the frames of cooperation agreement between Rostov Regional State Budgetary Institution "Oncologic Dispensary" and The Interdisciplinary Innovation Center for Medical Education (IICME)

Marina Chernikova, Director of IICME, emphasized that the purpose of the agreement with the Rostov Regional Oncology Center is to share and transfer best practices in the use of modern methods of conformal and stereotactic irradiation with specialists in the Rostov region.

"By joining efforts with the Oncologic Dispensary, we will be able to create an expert platform for improving the professional level of radiation oncologists in the region and help specialists seamlessly transition to work with modern linac - she noted. - And with support from Russia's leading manufacturer of linac, Fabrika RTT LLC, the scientific program of the events will be even more diverse and useful for users.

Currently, remote radiotherapy at the Rostov Regional Oncologic Dispensary is conducted only with gamma radiation therapy devices, without conformal radiation capabilities. With a population of more than 4 million people, the radiotherapy service has only three such machines with a service life of more than 7 years.

"Considering the number of population, our oncological dispensary needs to complete the existing fleet to the standard of equipment, which means ten high-energy and low-energy linac," stressed the chief physician of the Rostov Oblast Oncological Dispensary Evgeny Glumov. - We hope that the modernization will start soon, and we intend to prepare in advance for the transition to more modern equipment. We expect that the agreement that we concluded today with IICME will help us in this".

Among the speakers were: practical clinicians, leading medical physicists from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg medical institutions and clinical specialists from the medical equipment manufacturing companies: Fabrika RTT, Siemens Healthineers and Varian.

"Today's symposium is already the sixth event of IICME in the regions, in which our company participates," said Dmitry Raysky, Deputy CEO of Fabrika RTT LLC. - We try to support such educational initiatives, because we know what problems users faced who did not have sufficient experience with linac, and we understand how difficult it is to implement the full potential of state-of the-art technologies.

In total, 40 specialists from the Rostov Region, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, and experts from the Central Federal District and the Urals Federal District took part in the event, and over 80 participants joined on-line.
